Man drowns after falling into overflowing Arasinagundi waterfall in Karnataka

Udupi: A person from Bhadravati drowned at Arasinagundi Falls in Udupi district on Sunday.

Search operation is underway to locate him.

The victim has been identified as Sharath Kumar, a 23-year-old resident of Bhadravati in the Shivamogga district. Accompanied by his friend, Gururaj, the duo had embarked on a trip to Kollur. The two made their way to the Arasinagundi falls, situated approximately 6 km within the dense Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary.

A viral video on social media captured the moment when Sharath accidentally lost his footing and fell into the waters below.

Arasinagundi Falls is known for its beauty and serene surroundings. However the forest department, for safety reasons, strictly prohibits trekking in this spot during monsoon.

According to sources the two had been to the upper area of the falls on Sunday.

After reaching the falls, while Sharath was attempting to pose for a video clip, tragedy struck, and the situation turned fatal. Sharath fell into the water which was flowing with great force.

The search operation is underway.
