Abdul Nazer Mahdani denied bail, PDP hartal tomorrow

Madani is the 31st accused in the Bengaluru blast case and is on trial at the NIA court in Bengaluru.

KOLLAM: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for a 12-hour hartal in the State on Wednesday in protest against the NIA special court’s order denying permission to PDP Chairman Abdul Nassar Madani to attend his son’s marriage to be held at Thalassery on August 9. But the court has given him permission to visit his ailing mother in his house at Karunagappally and can stay in the State from August 1 to 6. Madani is the 31st accused in the Bengaluru blast case and is on trial at the NIA court in Bengaluru.

He is currently under treatment at Sahaya hospital at Lalbagh in Bengaluru. Mr Madani had filed a plea before the NIA court demanding exemption in bail conditions to visit Kerala from August 1 to 20, on the grounds that he wanted to meet his mother who is suffering from cancer and to participate in his son’s marriage at Thalasseri. However, the NIA court maintained that the Supreme Court had given relaxation in bail conditions to visit the mother alone, which the trial court could only sanction.
