Christians must help others: Bishop

The 25th anniversary was celebrated with the theme, “Exploring the joy of givingâ€.

Hyderabad: “The presence of Christianity should make a difference to the society by way of its members reaching out to as many people as possible and helping individuals move from a place where they are to a place where they should be,” said Rt Rev Dr Mathews Mar Makarios, the bishop of Chennai-Bengaluru Marthoma diocese, here on Sunday.

The bishop was speaking at the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Bethel Marthoma Church at Neredmet. He also released the jubilee souvenir. A part of contributions collected in the form of advertisements for the souvenirs was donated for paediatric cancer patients at MNJ Cancer Hospital.

A corpus was also formed to help underprivileged children studying at St. Thomas High School at Neredmet. The 25th anniversary was celebrated with the theme, “Exploring the joy of giving”. The bishop said that every Christian should adopt the example of Jesus Christ to reach out to people and help them.

“Christian mission and Christian presence should be the main focus for us. We should reach out to people in need. Our presence should make a difference in the society,” said Bishop Makarios.
