All-Kerala School Teachers Union to aid schools
KOZHIKODE: The All-Kerala School Teachers Union (AKSTU) would take the financial and infrastructural responsibility of eight schools in the district, which are on the verge of closure due to their uneconomical status. Four government schools and four aided schools, are in the selected list, along with 100 schools statewide. "Though only eight schools are in the chosen list, we have plans to add more schools, as more people have come forward to add them. The project, titled Munnettam, will be officially inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. By taking up the responsibility of the school, we do not perform the duties of the schools, but provide them with economic support," said AKSTU Kozhikode district secretary K.K. Radhakrishnan master.
The listed schools in the district are: Government Higher Secondary School (Boys), Parayanchery, Government Lower Primary School, Ramallur, Perambra, Government Lower Primary School, Cheekkonnummal, Government Lower Primary School, Kannankai, Thuneri, Meladi Mappila Lower Primary School, Payyoli, Vadakara South JBS, Mokeri Lower Primary School, Kunnummal and Peruvayal LPS, Velam.
The association has found resource persons who are ready to take classes for the poor students in the schools. Fourteen schools have been selected from Thiruvananthapuram, 13 from Kollam, 11 from Thrissur, 10 from Ernakulam, nine from Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta, seven from Malappuram and Kannur, four from Kasargod, three from Palakkad, two each from Wayanad and Kottayam. The union will make sure that the schools also get the support of the locals.
