Ensure hassle-free irrigation for Kharif: AP Speaker

VISAKHAPATNAM: Speaker Thammineni Sitaram asked the district administration to ensure hassle-free irrigation water supply to farmers so that they need not suffer during the Kharif season.

Addressing the general body meeting of zilla parishad in Srikakulam on Saturday, the Speaker said there should be better coordination between irrigation and other departments in this regard. Minister for Animal Husbandry Dr Seedari Appalaraju, former deputy chief minister Dharmana Krishnadas and MLAs V. Kalavathi, Kambala Joogulu and Reddy Shanti attended the meeting.

Regarding housing, collector Srikesh Lathkar informed the Speaker and MLAs that so far 27,500 houses had been completed, and the district stood third in the state in housing. He said infrastructure facilities for all the houses would be completed soon. Dharmana Krishnadas asked the district administration to provide houses for those who lost them in Guppedupeta village under Polaki mandal. Responding to this, the collector asked the housing board officials to provide alternative houses for the oustees.

Palakonda MLA V Kalavathi and Rajam MLA Kambala Jogulu sought better measures for water from borewells. Minister Dr Appala Rajju said the chief minister was arriving in Srikakulam to launch this year’s Amma Vodi scheme. He asked the officials to prepare themselves for the launch of the scheme by reviewing with sachivalayam staff. He also asked them to implement the Jagananna Suraksha scheme sincerely and suggested the volunteers visit every home to enquire about the welfare schemes.

He said the schemes should be delivered to all the left-outs. The minister asked the members of ZTPCs and MPTCs to coordinate with the volunteers with regard to the delivery of the schemes.

The Minister also announced that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy would visit Srikakulam district to inaugurate the kidney research centre and the hospital at Palasa constructed at ₹200 crore and a water project worth ₹700 crore to provide drinking water to Uddanam area of the district.
