Sugar fix! Tusker tucks in to a truckload of cane

It all happened when the truck driver stopped his vehicle on realising that he had run out of fuel.

Bengaluru: It was jumbo joy for a wild tusker which had its fill of sugarcane all because a truck ran out of fuel on the Chamarajanagar-Satyamangala Road between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

A video of the tusker savouring the cane from the truck has now gone viral.

It all happened when the truck driver stopped his vehicle on realising that he had run out of fuel.

The pachyderm standing on the roadside, on seeing the bundles of sugarcane neatly loaded inside the stationary truck, started feasting on the cane even as the panic-stricken driver sat in the vehicle, immobilised by fear.

The elephant ate the sugarcane for more than 15 minutes and returned to the forest, its belly filled. Traffic on the road was thrown out of gear for some time with people stopping and taking pictures of the elephant raiding the sugarcane laden truck.

Sugarcane is a favourite of elephants which raid villages on the fringes of forests to feast on banana plantations and cane.

According to locals, this is perhaps the first time an elephant has stopped a truck to eat cane.
