CM Pinarayi Vijayan, Minister Kadannappally Ramachandran to lead drive in Kannur

The campaign starting on Monday will be led by the dignitaries in different parts of the city.

KANNUR: Kannur Municipal Corporation Mayor E P Latha said that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Ports Minister Kadannappally Ramachandran and Kannur MP P.K Sreemathi among other dignitaries would lead the three-day cleaning drive organised by the civic body in order to further check the spread of fever. The campaign starting on Monday will be led by the dignitaries in different parts of the city. She was addressing the special council of Kannur Corporation held on Saturday in the wake of various types of fevers affecting over two lakh people across Kerala and leaving more than 100 dead.

An elaborate meeting will be held on Monday at 3 pm where political party representatives, merchants, voluntary organisation representatives, residents association office bearers etc would attend. The cleanliness drive is aimed at removing the garbage piles in public places and to clear mosquito breeding sources, stated to be one of the major reasons for the spread of fevers including dengue. The councilors who took part in the discussion demanded more funds for the effective implementation of the cleanliness drive and to appoint more sanitation workers. They also demanded effective fogging at hospital premises and to ensure the service of doctors round the clock.
