Karnataka: 109-year-old seer ill, in hospital

The head of the Sri Siddaganga Math is stable, but dehydrated, the doctors treating him said.

Bengaluru: The 109-year-old Sri Shivakumara Swamiji, who was suffering from jaundice for the last one week, was admitted to BGS Global Hospital on Friday, causing panic among his followers and many top politicians, who thronged the hospital.

The head of the Sri Siddaganga Math is stable, but dehydrated, the doctors treating him said. “He is not eating well. He had jaundice for a week and had fever. Over the last two days, his jaundice increased and he was admitted to the hospital.

His bilirubin level was 6.5 mg/dl which should be below 1 mg. We found that he has a bile duct blockage which is causing jaundice,” said Dr Ravindra, senior consultant and HoD, Medical Gastroenterologist at BGS. Dr Ravindra, along with his team, is treating the Swamiji.

“We’ll plan the course of action on Saturday. We might do an endoscopy, but his age and spinal deformity can be a risk. Only after we work on a plan to release the blockage can we discharge him," he said. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, BJP president B.S. Yeddyurappa and other leaders visited the hospital.
