DGP Loknath Behera complains against media to press council

He also sent a fresh letter to editors of all media to abstain from publishing any photograph revealing the identity of the accused.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State police chief Loknath Behera has written to the Press Council of India seeking a directive to media from publishing reports or photographs that affect the Jisha probe. The letter was sent in the wake of a vernacular daily publishing the picture of a person, claimed to be that of Jisha murder case accused Ameerul Islam, on Friday.

Mr Behera said in the letter sent on Friday that the photograph was published even though he requested all media organisations not to publish it as it may affect the probe. But a vernacular daily published a picture claiming to be that of the accused.

This is a violation of the Press Council Guidelines on Crime Reporting. He also sent a fresh letter to editors of all media to abstain from publishing any photograph revealing the identity of the accused.
