Guntur JC imposes traffic duty as punishment on 50 violators

VIJAYAWADA: In an attempt to check violation of traffic rules, Guntur district joint collector Himanshu Shukla imposed social service as punishment on 50 motorists who violated traffic rules in the recent past.

The 50 violators were found to be either using mobile phone while driving, jumping signals, triple riding or other mischiefs while on the road.

Mr Shukla asked the violators to hold placards highlighting the traffic rules at 10 main junctions in Guntur city on Wednesday.

Mr Shukla said that despite imposing fines, people were not shunning the use of mobile phones while driving and hence, they have decided to impose this punishment to change the attitude of the motorists.

He also asked the erring motorists to do social service of doing traffic duties on the roads. He said that 947 persons died in 2,200 road accidents in Guntur district during 2018. He interacted with the youth and suggested that they follow traffic norms without fail.

Traffic deputy commissioner G.C. Rajaratnam and traffic DSP K. Supraja were present.
