T P Senkumar case: Government unlikely to file review petition
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government seems to have no options but to reinstate T P . Senkumar as state police chief. The officer may continue to serve until his retirement on June 30. Sources said though the government explored the option of filing a review petition against Monday’s Supreme Court verdict, it got a legal advice that it might boomerang. “At present, the SC had not allowed Mr Senkumar’s plea for extension of service to compensate the eleven months he lost so far since his removal on June 1, 2016. He is due to retire on June 30. If the government goes for a review petition with the intention of delaying the execution of the SC order, the court may even give an extension of his tenure. Hence the government may not go for a review,” said a government source.
Sources close to Mr Senkumar feels that once reinstated as State Police Chief, he may continue to serve until June 30. The government is likely to take a decision on Tuesday. Once Mr Senkumar is reinstated, Loknath Behra would continue to be Vigilance director. Mr Behera is already holding full additional charge of Vigilance director as Jacob Thomas went on leave. In case Mr Thomas returns, he can take over as the director of Institute of Management in Government, the post that Mr Senkumar leaves.
