Kochi: In a major drive to keep a track on migrant labourers and non-permanent residents, the Kochi city police has started a survey to collect their details with the help of residents associations. Cops are deployed across the city limits with a notice and survey to gather the details, including contact number and job status. "This will be a long and continuous project. Kochi being a city having migrant population including labourers from other states, we are planning to keep on working with the residents' associations," said the city police commissioner M. P. Dinesh.
They decided to strengthen policing by co-ordinating with 840 associations in and around the city and sent notices to them. They have collected data from various households. The details include the name of the house owner his contact number and his family members. If it's a rented apartment, the owner should provide details of inhabitants. They have planned monthly meetings at the local police stations to identify “key issues”. Through the survey, they attempt to prepare a list of “easy target victims” such as elderly people staying alone. Sources said the exercise will be held out in five police districts including Ernakulam City and Ernakulam Rural in the initial stage.
