Idukki: Officials to act only after tight scrutiny

\"We have been asked to collect maximum data before moving against illegal encroachments,\" a revenue official told DC.

KOTTAYAM: The revenue authorities in Idukki, cautious on the future course of action, have decided to go ahead with the eviction drive only with proper scrutiny. They will compare documents with individuals with that of the government to verify survey numbers and to check whether the officials who granted title deeds had complied with the norms. The decision was in the context of protests against last week’s demolition of a Cross erected at Papathichola Medu in the Chinnakanal panchayath by the controversial 'Spirit in Jesus' group.

"We have been asked to collect maximum data before moving against illegal encroachments," a revenue official told DC. "We are also asked not to act against anyone without proper evidence." The revenue minister has also sought a day-to-day report on their operations after the Chief Minister had said he was kept in the dark on the demolish of the Cross.
