Hyderabad: The difference in the way men and women smile, can be used by Artificial intelligence (AI) to assign a gender as women’s smiles are more expansive. Gender recognition is being used in many areas including mobile phones, apps by police. Automatic gender classification is most sought after topic in the visual computing research. Existing methods of facial and gender recognition use static images and compares fixed features.
The dynamic movement of the smile can be used to automatically distinguish between men and women, according to a research, by the University of Bradford.
As per the research, using about 49 landmarks on face around eyes, nose and mouth, researchers assessed how face changes as we smile. The details of how much and how far and fast muscles move when a person smiles have been incorporated in an algorithm.
Automatic gender recognition can be used for face perception, age, ethnicity, identity analysis, video surveillance and smart human computer interaction.
