TP Chandrasekharan killers on remission list upsets VS Achuthanandan
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Veteran CPM leader V.S. Achuthanandan has opposed the move to grant remission to the convicts in T.P. Chandrashekharan murder case. When asked whether it was appropriate to grant remission to hardcore criminals including TPC murder convicts, the chairman of Administrative Reforms Commission replied in the negative. The veteran is upset over reports that the list recommended for remission included the names of 11 convicts in TPC murder case.
Right from 2012 when the gruesome murder took place, the veteran leader has taken a position against the official line and consistently demanded that there shouldn’t be any attempt to shield the culprits. Even during the UDF government’s tenure Mr Achuthanandan had demanded cancellation of parole to former CPM leader and TPC murder case convict K.C. Ramachandran. He had shot off a letter to the then home minister Ramesh Chennithala against giving parole. He had also from time to time demanded disciplinary action against the convicts. Of the three convicted by the court, the party had expelled only Ramachandran and not taken any action against P.K. Kunhan-anthan and Trouser Manoj.
The former general secretary Prakash Karat had then taken a stand that party’s internal inquiry had found only Ramachandran guilty of the murder. Meanwhile, CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran said he was against giving remission to hardcore criminals. On TPC murder convicts names figuring in the list, the CPI leader said that neither the government had officially confirmed this nor there is any other information available. “I would not like to comment without getting the exact details,” he told reports.
