Thiruvananthapuram Corporation budget evokes mixed reaction
Thiruvananthapuram: BJP and UDF have come out openly against the budget alleging that it has many drawbacks. While BJP's G. Girikumar said that welfare projects for widows and orphans which used to be included in the budget were give a miss this time, UDF called the budget a mere repetition of previous year's budget.
Heritage enthusiast and academician Achuth Shankar was happy for the decision to bring bathing ghats back to life along Killi and Karamana rivers. "When people use river, they will be committed for its protection," he said. He also welcomed the welfare measures planned for public school adding that basic problems at public school need to be identified and resolved. Indus Cycling Embassy founder member Prakash Gopinath lauded the budget, said that it must be the first time that a local body is setting aside budget for a cycle track.
