CPM miffed at attacks in cow's name

Yechury says RSS revealing its real agenda after winning poll.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Friday said that the continuing attacks in the name of cow protection in various parts of Uttar Pradesh raised serious concerns. At a press conference here Mr Yechury said these incidents were on the rise since Yogi Adityanath government came to power. Self styled groups and cow protectors have taken to streets to divide people on communal lines,” he said. The CPM general secretary said the installation of RSS pracharaks as CMs was a dangerous trend. “BJP did not project Yogi as CM ahead of the Assembly polls fearing defeat,” he said.

Mr Yechury said the anti romeo squads had turned into moral police brigades. “The BJP government is implementing the RSS agenda to transform our secular democratic country into a Hindu Rashtra. By closing slaughter houses and meat shops, the BJP government has exposed its real agenda right in the beginning,” the CPM general secretary said adding that the police was duty bound to protect the life and property of citizens. He sought the Centre’s intervention to prevent the Uttar Pradesh government from going ahead with its anti Muslim agenda. On the Babri Masjid issue, he said the dispute over the ownership of 2.76 acres of land in Ayodhya being a legal issue should be resolved by courts.

“It is not a political issue to be settled out of court. Various attempts in the past to resolve the issue through consensus had failed. Talks on consensus can happen after the court legally settles the issue,” he said. He added that the former prime minister Narashima Rao could have prevented the demolition of the mosque. However, he didn’t take any action even when the demolition had begun. Mr Yechury said RSS attempts to expand its base through communal politics and violence in north Kerala would be defeated. “Sangh Privar is making attempts to communalise the entire part of northern Kerala through violence and terror to expand its social base. CPM will defeat RSS designs by mobilising the people,” he said.
