Flower show in Thiruvananthapuram from Friday
Thiruvananthapuram: The flower show, which was to begin on Thursday, has been postponed to Friday. The reason: some of the most beautiful flowers are still on their way. Mayor V K Prasanth who had arrived, had to leave without inaugurating the show.
Among the consignments which are yet to make it here, is a rose garden with more than 5000 flowers. That should cover 5000-60000 sq ft area, and is coming from Pune. Plants in bloom are also coming from Bengaluru and Kolkata.
Another special item on display at the show is an all-season mango tree. The organisers say that it is an exotic Thai variety. There are other fruit plants here.
The show will be displaying dwarf shoe flowers. There will be over 60 varieties of these. In all there are 100 species of flowers here, according to the organisers.
It is spring in north India. However in Kerala, it is a hot summer, and the state is experiencing drought. The organisers said that they have made arrangements for 5000 litres of water, needed for the temporary garden to be set up on the premises of Kanakakkunnu palace.
Apart from the flower show there will be a cattle show where 16 rare varieties of cattle will b on display. There will be a vintage car expo, in which cars from the year 1900 will be exhibited.
