Plea to declare Feb. 24 as a state holiday

HYDERABAD: Family members and associates of Mir Osman Ali Khan Bahadur, the seventh Nizam, paid floral tributes and offered prayers in his memory at his grave in Masjid-e-Judi, King Koti, marking his 56th death anniversary here on Friday. They urged Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to declare February 24 as a state holiday.

They said that the Nizams, apart from being secular, were keen on the welfare of the people. They took the lead in establishing educational institutions and providing medical facilities in Hyderabad.

Nawab Mir Najaf Ali Khan, grandson of the Nizam, said “My grandfather’s contribution to elevate the entire Deccan region remains unparalleled. His rule is recalled with pride by the people. We have approached the Nizam Awqaf Committee to know the present status of the 62 Wakf properties that belonged to Nizam VII.”
