The veteran leader said the moral goons had also posted defamatory pictures and posts on the social networking sites.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Veteran CPM leader V.S. Achuthanandan on Friday asked the government to deal sternly with the moral police brigades who are targeting people in many parts of the state. In a statement here, the former chief minister said that maintenance of law and order and rule of law was the job of police. If this responsibility is taken over by goonda gangs, then it would create anarchy and free for all situation in the state.

Mr Achuthanandan said moral policing was totally unacceptable and cannot be allowed in a civilised society. The tragic incident in which a youth was forced to commit suicide following harassment at the hands of moral brigade on the Azheekal beach was the latest incident.
