800mw capacity power generation unit to start in two months

Vijayawada: Energy Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy has announced that the 800mw capacity power generation unit at Dr Narla Tatarao Thermal Power Stations would be dedicated to the nation in two months’ time.

The generation unit would meet the rise in demand for power in the state during the summer months.

The minister said the works on solar and pump storage units were going on at a brisk pace. He praised the APTransco for standing first in the entire country in power transmission by winning the SCOTCH gold and silver medals. He also lauded energy special chief secretary K Vijayanand, Transco CMD B Sreedhar and the staff.

The minister, addressing a meeting, said chief minister Jagan Reddy was extending all support to develop the power sector. The energy department bagged three prestigious awards in the recent 15th Enertia award summit.

The minister said the government was committed to provide free power supply to the farm sector for the coming 25-30 years. It has entered into a pact with the Solar Energy Corporation for purchase of 7,000mw of solar power at a cost of Rs 2,49 per unit.
