Hyderabad: The four passengers who were in the car, which crashed in Bachupally on Monday, were found to be graduates and were on a joyride in the SUV which they have rented on Sunday morning. However, none of them sustained any injury in the crash as the airbags in the vehicle could have saved them, police said.
T Srinath, 24, a resident of Kukatpally, completed his graduation and is searching for jobs. On Sunday morning, he rented the SUV from a car rental agency in Madhapur for 36 hours.
On Monday morning, he drove to CMR Engineering college in Shapur where he met his friends Shivaram, Ramu, Sharanya and Sowmya who were his classmates in degree.
After spending time till noon with them near the college, all five of them came to KPHB Colony and after having lunch in a restaurant, were returning to the college again to meet other friends.
Srinath was driving the vehicle and enroute when they were passing from Pragathi Nagar towards the main road connecting Bachupally to Dundigal, he suddenly noticed a tipper on the extreme right which was turning into a lane on the left.
“In an attempt to avoid the tipper, he lost control and crashed the vehicle into the tree on the road side.” Bachupally inspector K. Balakrishna Reddy said, adding out of fear they fled spot and reached Srinath’s home in an autorickshaw.
Inspector said Srinath holds a valid driving license and the allegations that they could be drunk are also not true and none of them were also injured in the accident.
