Tallest Christmas tree in country on show in Kovai
Coimbatore: Standing 63-feet tall and weighing 1.2 tonnes, it took a team of 30 enthusiasts to put together what is claimed to be the tallest Christmas Tree in India this year. ‘Poppys Hotel’ in partnership with ‘Dream Flowers Events’ has created the unique tree that has found its place in the ‘Universal Achievers Book of Record’ for the category ‘tallest artificial Christmas Tree in India’. “Right from planning, sketching and execution of the tree, our team worked in a phased manner. The idea is to bring to Coimbatore to the limelight and we are also aiming to etch our name in the Guinness World Records for the same attempt.” Mr. R. Jayaraman, Operation Manager, Poppys Group of Hotels said.
Around 100 strips of serial lights each containing as many 150 individual lights, 200 Christmas caps, 20 Santa sticks, 70 balls, 45 medium size Christmas stars, 400 jute balls among other decorations have been used. Steel rods measuring six and eight mm, steel pipes of three inch diameter, steel frames of three inch diameter and flex sheets have been used to ensure that tree stands sturdy.
To allow guests to enjoy the full view of the tree, a video that showcases every nook and corner of the tree is played on an LED monitor that is placed adjacent to the tree. The screen also plays a behind the scene video showcasing the making of the special tree with Christmas carols playing in the background. India’s tallest Christmas Tree is on display at ‘Poppys Hotel’ from Saturday to January 2, 2018. A source from the hotel shares that in the past, a private society in Worli, South-central Mumbai created a 56-feet tall Christmas tree, and in 2014, Shoppers Stop Ltd made a 40-ft tall Christmas tree.
