President Pranab Mukherjee to inaugurate Indian History Congress

The Congress will be held across 11 venues in the Karayavattom.

Thiruvananthapuram: President Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the 77th session of the Indian History Congress at the Karyavattom campus of the Kerala University on December 29 at the golden jubilee hall of the university at Karyavattom at 12.30 p.m . Governor P Sathasivan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala and Dewaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran will also take part in the event.

The Chief Minister will inaugurate the seminar 'Making of modern India and secularism’ at Senate Hall on December 27 as a curtain-raiser public session to the Congress. Historian Romila Thapar, musician T. M. Krishna, actor Nandita Das, poet Sachidanandan and Director Kamal will take part in the seminar. The Congress which will begin on December 28 will be held across 11 venues in the Karayavattom campus.

The university will also organize Special cultural programmes on the art and culture of the state as part of the history Congress on December 28 and 29, said Pro Vice-Chancellor Pro Vice Chancellor N. Veeramanikandan. Education Minister C. Ravindranath will deliver the inaugural address at the valedictory function on December 30. The important sessions as part of the Congress will be on Ancient India, Medieval India, Modern India, Countries other than India, Archaeology and Contemporary India. Apart from that, there will be four panels and a symposium.
