Kannur University doubles research fellowship
Kannur: The Kannur University has doubled the research fellowship amount for scholars from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000. A comprehensive waste management plant will also be set up on the campus at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore. The decisions were included in the budget presented by university finance standing committee convener Santhosh Kumar on Friday. The budget proposes an equal income and expenditure of Rs 15,454.57 lakh. The various construction works started in the varsity will be completed this fiscal year itself. The construction of four floors of the main building at Thavakkara will start soon and a total of Rs 11.65 crore has been earmarked for it.
A sum of Rs 2 crore has been allocated for the campus renovation, including constructing car parking area, interlocking the courtyard and for garden. Another Rs 1 crore has been allocated for installing solar panels and rain water harvesting on various campuses. A synthetic track will come up at Mangattuparamba campus at an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore. Biotechnology and microbiology departments will get a new building at Thalaseery Palayad campus at a cost of Rs 4 crore and another Rs 3 crore will be spent for basic amenities.
