Girija Vaidyanathan takes over as Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu

Mrs Vaidyanathan met Chief Minister O Pannerselvam in his chamber at Fort St George.

Chennai: Seasoned bureaucrat Dr Girija Vaidyanathan took over as Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu on Friday, a day after she was named to the top post by the government. Immediately after taking charge, Mrs Vaidyanathan met Chief Minister O Pannerselvam in his chamber at Fort St George.

It was business from day one for Mrs Vaidyanathan as she attended a series of events which were presided over by the Chief Minister, including a meeting with officials from Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA).

She was present at the events to hand over Rs 2 crore as the state’s contribution as “Lead Platinum Sponsor” to Tamil Nadu Tennis Association for the conduct of Chennai Open and a prize money of Rs 2 crore to Maraiappan Thangavelu, the Paralympic high jumper who won Gold in 2016 Summer Paralympic games in Rio de Janeiro. Later, she received wishes from her colleagues and other officials in the Secretariat.
