TS urges KRMB to direct AP not to proceed with VLIS works

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has requested the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to direct Andhra Pradesh to not proceed with the construction of the Varikapudisela lift irrigation scheme (VLIS) in Palnadu until they are appraised by the board and approved by the Apex Council. This, the state said, is the basic norm to be followed.

In a letter to KRMB, Telangana irrigation and command area development engineer-in-chief (general) C. Muralidhar said the the AP government had stated that phase-I of the project will be taken up at a cost of Rs 340.26 crore. It would supply 1.57 thousand million cubic feet for irrigation and drinking.

Its head works have been proposed on the Varikapudisela Vagu, which joins the foreshore of the Nagarjunasagar near Gangulakunta village of Veldurthi Mandal.

The Telangana government requested KRMB to direct Andhra Pradesh not to proceed with the new projects enhancing the scope of Srisailam Right Bank Canal (SRBC), Telugu Ganga Project (TGP), Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) and Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanthi (GNSS) projects along with new schemes including the above work until they are appraised before KRMB and approved by the Apex Council.
