Rs 4.68 lakh fee for Karuna Medical College

An increase of 10 per cent from the previous year was allowed for future development expenditure.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Fee Regulatory Committee (FRC) meeting has fixed the tuition fee for the academic year 2017-18 at Rs 4.68 lakh for Karuna Medical College, Palakkad here on Thursday. The tuition fees already collected from the students in excess of this fee of Rs 4.68 lakh per year can be refunded or adjusted towards the tuition fee for the subsequent year. The admissions were conducted to these seats earlier with a temporary tuition fee of Rs 5 lakh for 85 per cent seats and Rs 20 lakh for the 15 per cent NRI seats fixed by FRC.

The Medical College has submitted the audit report of 2016-17 to the FRC for the regulation of tuition fee for the academic 2016-17. During the hearing the medical college representatives of the college pointed out that the audit report of the year 2016-17 can be considered for the regulation of tuition fee for the academic year 2017-18 also. On the basis of this, the Committee decided to regulate the tuition fee for the academic year 2017-18 with the available documents submitted before the Committee.

An increase of 10 per cent from the previous year was allowed for future development expenditure. This was based on the directive of the Supreme Court that made clear that reasonable surplus of six to 15 per cent can be allowed for future growth and development on the basis of the claim put forward by the management representatives during the course of hearing. The Committee also found it appropriate to allow an increase of five per cent towards Whole sale Price index for inflation for the year 2017-18. This is the inflation rate pronounced by Central government agencies.
