Immersion of PoP idols draws criticism

Hyderabad: Social activist Mamidi Venu Madhav, who had petitioned the court against the immersion of Plaster of Paris (PoP) Durga idols in the Hussainsagar and sent notices to multiple enforcement agencies, on Tuesday said the practice continued and he had not received a reply from any of the agencies.

He said that the state government did not give a clear stand on the court’s order during the immersion of Durga idols at Hussainsagar and other natural water bodies.

When contacted, a senior GHMC official told Deccan Chronicle, “GHMC was not given any request for idols immersion during the Dasara celebrations, so no arrangements are made. GHMC is not aware of any PoP idol immersion in Hussainsagar or any natural body in its region.”
