Mild tremors in Karimnagar district

The National Centre of Seismology said that the earthquake had a magnitude of 4 on the Richter scale, and struck at 2.03 pm for two seconds

Karimnagar: People ran out of their houses to save themselves, unable to understand what was going on, when the earth shook under their feet for a few moments at about 2 pm in several places in the erstwhile Karimnagar district area on Saturday.

People of Mancherial town also reported feeling the tremors of the mild earthquake. The National Centre of Seismology said that the earthquake had a magnitude of 4 on the Richter scale, and struck at 2.03 pm for two seconds.

People panicked and came out of their houses in the Naspur, Ramnagar Colony, Goseva Mandal Colony, Seetharampalli areas, a report from Mancherial town said.

In NTPC Colony, Jyothinagar, Malkapur and Narrashalapalle of Peddapalli district, the tremors were reportedly felt for two minutes. The epicentre of the earthquake was stated to be in the northeast of the erstwhile Karimnagar district (Latitude 18.77, Longitude 79.38), at a depth of 20 km.

Officials breathed a sigh of relief as there were no reports of life and property damage in the areas where the earthquake was felt.
