Issues of Polavaram displaced will be sorted out: EG collector

A special committee has been formed to identify and resolve problems of Polavaram Project-displaced persons in a phased manner

KAKINADA: A special committee with public representatives, non-government organisations, village sarpanches and officers has been formed to identify and resolve problems of Polavaram Project-displaced persons in a phased manner, East Godavari district collector Ch. Hari Kiran said on Saturday.

Hari Kiran, along with ITDA project officer Praveen Adhithya and sub-collector Katta Simhachalam, toured the Polavaram R&R Colony at Indukurupeta-1 meant for villagers of Agraharam, Mantur and Yenugulagudem. They inspected houses and received grievances from the project-displaced persons.

The collector said basic amenities like roads and drainage are yet to be developed, while a burial ground, anganwadi, schools, playgrounds and drinking water facilities will be provided soon. 23 of the 26 R&R colonies are for tribal people, he stated.

Earlier, Hari Kiran convened a review meeting with sarpanches, public representatives and officials. He said that 53 villages in Devipatnam and Chinturu mandals are in the inundation list of Polavaram Project. There are issues related to 426 acres in Kondamodalu area and the same have been brought to attention of government. The collector assured that all eligible 18 year’ olds will get compensation and R&R package.

Rampachodavarm MLA N. Dhanalakshmi, Araku MP G. Madhavi, zilla parishad chairman V. Venugopal, Chinturu ITDA project officer A. Venkata Ramana were among those present.
