Visakhapatnam rape case: Victim left hubby's home last month
Visakhapatnam: A woman was raped by a drunk man in public on a busy street near the railway station in Visakhapatnam, but passers-by videographed the crime instead of coming to her help. He had previously been charged with the theft of two motorcycles in 2012 and sent to a juvenile home.
On Sunday, Shiva, who was heavily inebriated at the time of the incident, had approached the 40-year-old woman who was sitting on the footpath and forced himself upon her.
ACP (East) A. Narasimha Murthy said that an autorickshaw driver who was witness to the incident had filmed it, but not a single person who had passed by had made an attempt to stop the accused. “We have nabbed the accused and sent him to remand based on the video of the incident. The victim has been sent to KG Hospital for medical examination. Blood samples also have been collected and sent for forensic testing,” he said.
The police said that the victim’s father lived near Thatchetlapalem in Vizag city, her husband lived in Chodavaram in Vizag district, and her two children lived in Guntur.
She left her husband’s home about a month ago due to some marital discord, and her relatives refused to take her in. The statements recorded by the victim and the accused are inconsistent, possibly due to his inebriated condition and her ill health.
