Kerala: Gauri Neha kin allege medical lapse

The girl who was brought to the hospital by 2 p.m. on Friday, was not given treatment until 5 p.m., it is alleged.

Kollam: The relatives of the girl who died on Monday after she jumped from the third storey of the Trinity Lyceum school on Friday alleged medical negligence by the Benziger hospital here where she was taken first. The hospital authorities did not give her proper treatment for at least three hours, they said. The girl, Gauri Neha of standard 10-A division, was taken to the hospital within half- an- hour of the incident that occurred at 1.30 p.m. However, the hospital authorities did not consider the possibilities of internal bleeding though they found fractures in her ribs and skull.

The girl who was brought to the hospital by 2 p.m. on Friday, was not given treatment until 5 p.m. The hospital authorities allegedly referred the girl to another hospital after the relatives protested. She died at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. On the fateful day of October 20, Gauri Neha of Standard 10 A division went to meet her younger sister studying in 8 B and entered into a wordy duel with another student of the same class, Trinity Lyceum Principal S. John told DC.

“The girl along with her friends went to Standard 10 A and they had an argument with Gauri. Seeing this, the class teacher of Standard 8 B, Sindhu, asked the students to disperse. She demanded that Gauri meet the Principal which she refused,” he said. Standard 10 A class teacher Crescent noticed Gauri was not in class while marking attendance and asked a few students to trace her. “It was found that the girl had fallen off the building" and was taken to hospital soon after, he added.

Protest march to school turns violent

The protest march taken out by various student organisations to Trinity Lyceum school here on Monday turned violent with stone-pelting by the agitators and bursting of grenades by the police. Some mediapersons and the protesters were injured in the police action. Kollam west police also arrested two SFI workers and registered cases against 100 SFI and 50 KSU activists for violence. The SFI activists dismantled the police barricade, rushed towards the school and destroyed its property. The agitators pelted stones at the police who burst grenades to disperse them.
