I-T summons actor Vishal over unpaid TDS

Sources said that the actor's production house hasn't deposited the TDS amount to the tune of Rs 51 lakhs.

Chennai: A team of officials, supposedly from the TDS wing of the Income tax department ‘visited’ actor Vishal’s production house in Kumaran Nagar in Vadapalani.

According to sources, the officials went through documents to verify if the production house has not deposited tax deposited at source (TDS) with the government account.

Sources said that the actor’s production house hasn’t deposited the TDS amount to the tune of Rs 51 lakhs and have issued summons for him to appear on Friday.

The visit by officials comes a day after the actor-producer accused BJP national secretary H. Raja of encouraging piracy by watching the recent Vijay movie, Mersal online.

Sources said that the officials visited the office around 2 pm and went about their work for over two hours. Meanwhile, a few reports mentioned that the actor’s production house was raided by the Chennai Zonal Unit of the Directorate

General of Goods and Service Tax Intelligence (DGGSTI). An official release from the office of PVK Rajasekhar, joint director of the Chennai unit of DGGSTI, clarified that their officers had not conducted any such search operations.

When the officials arrived, actor Vishal was not present in his office and the staff allowed the officials after they flashed their government ID cards.

Vishal, who is president of Tamil Film Producers Council and secretary of South Indian Artistes’ Association, has produced six films including Kathakali, Naan Sigappu Manithan so far under his production house, Vishal Film factory.
