Gwalior Rayons land may host skill centre

Govt likely to collaborate with Birla group

KOZHIKODE: Talks of the government setting up a national-level skill development institution on the land occupied by Gwalior Rayons at Mavoor gained momentum with speakers at the ‘Kerala Investment Conclave- 2016’ organised by the Greater Malabar Initiative (GMI) on Sunday supported the move.

“The government is open to the idea of joining hands with the Birla group to start a skill development institution on the land,” Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) chairman Christy Fernandez said. “The GMI will act as a facilitator for the talks between the government and the Birla group.” Speakers pointed out the potential of Wayanad being developed as a major tourism destination in the State.

Principal secretary (tourism) V. Venu said the district needed more investments adding a foreign company has showed interest in implementing a township project without compromising the geographical and environmental background of the region. KSIDC managing director M Beena and former Indian diplomat T.P. Seetharam said the Malabar region needed more investment in the infrastructure sector and suggested that GMI conduct a possibility study on the same.

Finance Minister Thomas Issac who addressed the gathering through video conferencing appreciated the efforts put forward by GMI to bring potential investors to the state. GMI Foundation general convener Roshan Kynadi and joint convener CS Ashique AM said an entrepreneurs’ meet and a start up meet will be conducted as a follow up of the conclave. As many as 300 NRI businessmen and 100 major investors in the country participated in the two-day conclave.
