Food Security Act to come in force from November 1
Alappuzha: The Minister for Food and Civil Supplies P. Thilothaman on Sunday said that the Government would implement the Food Security Act from November 1. As part of the implementation, the minister said at a press conference, the distribution of ration cards would be completed by March 15 next year. With the implementation of the act, the APL and BPL list would become irrelevant. A draft has been published by the government on October 20. If there is any complaint, people can directly submit it to concerned offices till October 30.
“As per the new act, priority and non- priority list (instead of APL and BPL) would come into being. People who have a 1000 square feet house, four-wheeler, civil servants, bank employees except ST last grade, and income tax remitters would not be considered in the priority list. As per the data, as many as 1.54 cr. people are eligible to be included in the priority list. These people would be allotted free ration by the central government,” he said.
