Heavy Rains Flood 36 Villages in AP's Satya Sai District, Road Access Cut Off

Anantapur: Heavy rains lashed several parts of the region since Saturday night, disrupting life and road communications.

Over 36 villages of Kadiri revenue division in Satya Sai district have lost road access due to the overflowing of the Maddileru river canal system. Floodwaters from the river submerged the main roads between Kadiri-Pulivendula and Anantapur.

The canal was flooded between Malakavemula, Batrepalli and Rachavaripalli Tanda in Kadiri rural mandal in Satya Sai district.

Officials said road access was lost between Kadiri and some 36 nearby villages and tribal areas. Heavy rains lashed the region since Saturday night, causing floods in Kadiri, Madakasira of Satya Sai district and Anantapur city and Rapthadu in Anantapur district.

There was temporary relief to the people. The temperatures had touched 36 degrees even during the rainy season because of the failure of the South West Monsoon rains two months ago.

The kharif crop was badly hit in many areas and the untimely rain caused damage to existing crops at their peak stages, agricultural officials said.
