Kerala: CBSE managements want dual control lifted

Richard Hay, MP also called to bridge the gap in the standard between different streams.

KOCHI: The state meeting of the school managers and principals held here under the auspices of the Kerala CBSE School Management Association representing over 1,300 schools on Saturday demanded that the dual control over CBSE schools by Central and state government should give way to a singular control by the Centre. Addressing the meeting, the management association president T.P.M. Ibrahim Khan said a lot of stifling controls are being imposed on CBSE schools which need to be removed to ensure the smooth functioning of the schools and their survival.

“Though a lot of politicians from the state individually show sympathy to the cause of CBSE schools, when they act as part of the state government, they do the opposite, which is very unfortunate,” Mr Ibrahim Khan said. “State schools follow SCERT syllabus and it is natural that they are controlled by state government and in the same way it should be made that the Central government alone govern CBSE schools that follow NCERT syllabus,” he said.

Addressing the gathering, CBSE Management Association general secretary Indira Rajan exhorted managers and principals to convey the merits of CBSE schools to parents, like the sterling performance of the CBSE students in exams like NEET outclassing those from other streams, so as to be the winner in the tough competition and stiff regulations created from various sides. Inaugurating the meet, Richard Hay, MP, called for an overhaul of the school curriculum in the country and termed CBSE schools as centres of excellence. He also called to bridge the gap in the standard between different streams. Prof K.V. Thomas MP who inaugurated the managerial empowerment meet asked the educators to raise the standard of our education system to international level. Former MP Abdul Samad Samadani presided.
