Activists take out march to Thomas Chandy's house
KOCHI: Activists of Youth Congress and KSU took out a protest march to transport minister Thomas Chandy’s house at Chilavannoor in Kochi on Saturday. Supporters of the minister from the compound used abusive language against the protestors who waved black flags which resulted in a tense situation. Later police arrested and removed the activists who blocked the entrance of Mr Chandy’s house.
“The minister should step down, or Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan should sack him. If the tainted minister plans to continue, he will not be allowed to step into the streets,” said Abin Varkey Kodiyattu, NSU national committee member. Aam Aadmi Party workers also staged a protest march to the minister’s house. “Both the LDF and the UDF are trying to protect Mr Chandy who has encroached upon vast areas of backwaters in Alappuzha and Kochi. His house at Chilavannoor is built on encroached land,” said C. R Neelakandhan, AAP state convener.
