Vizhinjam no threat: Minister Kadannappally Ramachandran

After visiting the Container Terminal on Friday, he said that tje potential of the Terminal is yet to be fully utilised.

KOCHI: The proposed Vizhinjam Port project will not affect prospects of Vallarpadam International Transhipment Container Terminal and the state government is committed to develop the Terminal at par with global standards and work for its future development, said minister for ports Kadannappally Ramachandran. “The Vallarpadam terminal has an unique significance and commissioning of Vizhinjam will not become a barrier for it,” he observed.

After visiting the Container Terminal on Friday, he said that tje potential of the Terminal is yet to be fully utilised. “In future, Kochi will find a prominent place on the world shipping map with the Vallarpadam terminal,” he said. Mr Kadannappally who reached the terminal in the morning, held a meeting with officials and stakeholders. Later, he visited the transshipment area to take a look at the movement of containers from the ship to the container trucks.

“Facilities set up by the DP World at the Terminal are better than any other terminal, but its standard needs to get global attention.” The minister was given a brief on the functioning of the Terminal by DP World India Gateway Terminals managers Krishna Kumar, Gireesh C. Menon, Jeemon Joseph and Rajeev Menon. He was accompanied by district collector Muhammad Y. Safirulla and S. Sarma MLA.
