Thiruvananthapuram: Coinciding with the 70th Independence Day, a 'Tiranga Yathra' Rally was inaugurated on Tuesday at Sainik School Kazhakootam under the aegis of Sports authority of India. The rally was flagged off by Governor P. Sathasivam. He handed over the tricolor flag to world boxing champion K. C. Lekha and ace badminton player and Arjuna awardee D. Biju, who led the rally.
The rally commenced from SSK and ended at Lakshmibai National College for Physical Education (LNCPE), Kariavattom. Hundreds of participants representing various schools, NCC, Kerala Police, Army, Navy, CRPF and the trainees from LNCPE participated in the colorful rally.
Kadakampalli Surendran, Minister for Power and Devaswom presided over the function and delivered the presidential address. Air Vice Marshal G Amar Prasad Babu, Senior Officer-in-Charge Administration, HQ Southern Air Command were also present. The function was organised to instill the spirit of nationalism in youngsters and make them aware of the freedom fighters' contribution in the creation of modern Indian republic.
