Telangana: Children waiting for organ transplants under Jeevandan scheme

Split liver procedures work only with family members.

Hyderabad: Six children suffering from severe liver troubles are currently on the waiting list for an organ transplant. The children are on the list for the Jeevandan scheme of the government for liver transplant.

A senior Jeevandan official said: “All six children are suffering from end-stage liver problems and they will require a transplant soon. There are two more children who too are in a critical condition. When the family members were evaluated for a split liver transplant it was found that they were either obese, diabetic or were suffering from alcoholism. Which is why we are waiting for livers via cadavers.”

Split liver procedures work only with family members. Jeevandan is now getting registrations for children seeking livers and kidneys and officials are maintaining a separate profile of these cases.
