Self-financing medical colleges move Kerala High Court
Kochi: Managements of self-financing medical and dental colleges on Tuesday moved Kerala High Court against the governemnt’s decision to hold admissions to all seats by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations. The managements contended that the Government Order, passed on August 20, taking over the admission process is illegal and that they have already started the process to admit students in the MBBS & BDS courses in their colleges as approved by the Admission Supervisory Committee.
The petitioners questioned the government stand that the Union government had issued a direction to the state government and said there was no such direction in the letter sent by the Centre. The said letter only said that it was “desirable” to have a centralised allotment by the State, the managements said. The petitioners contended that the admission process has started on the basis of the existing agreement and relevant government orders and that the government cannot go back on them.
The petitioners said they had evolved an absolutely fair and transparent method of selection where everything was centralised and the system was so designed that nobody could jump the queue of merit, even if any individual management wanted to. The petition filed by Association representing the Christian Professional Colleges pointed out that admissions to the entire seats (other than for the NRIs) were done by the petitioners directly through a centralised system. The court would consider the case on Thursday.
