PENGANGA (ADILABAD): Vehicles remained stranded along 10 km between Adilabad in Telangana and Bori in Maharashtra from Saturday night after authorities stopped movement of vehicles on the inter-state bridge after River Penganga, which separates the two states, overflowed and almost touched the bridge.
Road traffic resumed only from Sunday morning, after the water level in the river dropped.
Drivers and cleaners of heavy vehicles suffered the most, as they had to go without food and water throughout the night. The few Dhabas between Adilabad and Penganga witnessed huge rush.
Driver Pandian of a Tamil Nadu truck said they had been forced to cook food within the cabin of their truck with great difficulty, as it had been raining.
According to reports, Penganga overflowed owing to heavy rains in Aurangabad and Yavathmal districts in Maharashtra.
Adilabad joint collector N. Nataraj said they permitted vehicles to cross the bridge over Penganga only after the water receded to a safe level. Revenue, panchayatraj and police are jointly monitoring the flood situation, he stated.
Standing crops have been inundated in flood waters at many places in Bela and Jainad mandals. Cotton crops suffered at Sangvi, Kapri and Bedoda.
Adilabad MLA Jogu Ramanna visited various flood-affected villages in Jainad and Bela in a country boat.
