Koramangala Sony Signal: Traffic jam at midnight!

Snail paced work on elevated corridor.

Bengaluru: Believe it or not, bumper-to-bumper traffic can be witnessed at Koramangala even at midnight!

Thanks to the snail paced work on elevated corridor being taken up by the BBMP between Ejipura Junction and Kendriya Sadan, the traffic flow is affected even during midnight.

In addition, the poor handling of traffic by the police near Sony Signal is adding to the chaos.

“It is weird that traffic gets choked at the Sony Signal junction during midnight. It takes at least 20 minutes to commute a distance of less than half-a-kilometre from Sony Signal till Ejipura junction at midnight after the day’s work. Normally, at this time of the day traffic movement should be smooth. Getting struck in the midnight is the worst thing that can happen to anybody,” said Komala, a resident of Murugeshpalya.

She also pointed out that the traffic cops were hardly present on the narrow stretch through which the traffic was being diverted. “Koramangala Sony Signal junction cannot be like a god forsaken place and traffic must be manned properly. Especially when a mega project like elevated corridor is taken up,” she said.

Considering the fact that a major infrastructure project is underway the traffic cops must be little smart and divert the traffic in such a way that it minimizes inconvenience rather than add to the chaos.

Allowing vehicles bound towards Indiranagar, Domlur and Old Airport Road through a narrow stretch is a bad idea. Instead they should divert traffic through alternate roads. How can we have a construction worker man traffic by wielding a LED light stick, she rued.

Another commuter, Jitendra K, a resident of Indiranagar said that due to the concentration of a number of IT companies, pubs, hotels and other commercial activities the Sony Signal junction remains busy round the clock. It is necessary that the traffic police man the traffic throughout the day in shifts to ensure that there are no traffic snarls or accidents.

The alternate road parallel to storm water drain at Ashwini Layout has also been dug up for laying pipes and it has not been restored even after a month, said Anil, a resident of Ashwini Layout.
