Bengaluru: Roads in Games Village campus in poor shape

The area has now become unsafe for children and senior citizens.

Bengaluru: The National Games Village (NGV), which once had smooth, pothole-free roads and proper drainage system, is now in bad shape. The road quality within the NGV campus has deterioted and they are uneven and even pothole ridden in some stretches.

The area has now become unsafe for children and senior citizens.

The NGV Road always has cars parked on either sides leaving little space for vehicular movement. Senior citizens who go for walks are unsure of reaching home without hurting themselves due to the bad roads and footpaths. Children who ride bicycles risk meeting with accidents.

Venkataramana, a resident of NGV, claimed he got hurt due to bad road and suffered the pain for a long duration. Repeated complaints to the BBMP and ward corporators have fallen on deaf ears. But the BBMP has bothered to fix the problem.

Sumithra, another resident of NGV campus entrance is an eyesore because of garbage pile ups and the residents have to contend with mosquitoes and stench.

Instead of clearing the garbage and keeping it clean, the BBMP has constructed an Indira Canteen nearby and serving food for poor people in unhygienic condition.

During rains, the garbage often spills over to the road. Children and senior citizens, who have low immunity, fall prey to various diseases, she added.

Madhura P., who takes her child to skating coaching classes cursed BBMP for its lackadaisical attitude. The KPTCL had dug up the road for installing transformers, but it has been left unattended for long.

The entrance to the skating rink is also not safe as it is located near the high powered power station. A senior BBMP official said that KPTCL has taken up Power sub-station work and is nearing completion. The KPTCL has been requested to asphalt to the road once the work is over and they have consented to restore the road.
