Hyderabad: Racket in PDS rice busted, five arrested

Hyderabad: Rachakonda police busted a major PDS rice diversion racket and arrested five persons in Madgul on Sunday. Police also seized 51 quintals of PDS rice from them.

The arrested persons are K. Suman, B. Bhasker, K. Laxmaiah, K. Lingaiah and G. Narsimha.

Police said the Ranga Reddy district civil supplies officials raided the residence of Suman and found 92 bags of PDS rice, each weighing 50 kg. He told the police that he had procured 66 bags from Bhasker of Nagilla village and 26 bags from K. Laxmaiah of Dodlapahad village.

Based on clues received from him the civil supplies officials seized nine bags from K. Lingaiah in Amangal. They later recovered a bag of PDS rice from the Sri Kanakadurga Rice Mill. Police found that the suspect had purchased the PDS rice supplies from people of different villages and had then sold them in the black market.

Police registered a case under the Essential Commodities Act and seized 51 quintals of PDS rice and the lorry used for transporting the stock.
