Kerala: Parties unite to fight fever
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday said doctors will be appointed on temporary basis in hospitals, services of doctors in hospitals will be extended beyond 2 pm and mobile clinics will be deployed in high risk areas as part of government’s fever control measures. After presiding over an all-party meeting here, the chief minister said there is complete unanimity among political parties on tackling rising fever cases in the state. All government hospitals will provide services of doctors after the scheduled timing of 2 pm.
He said apart from doctors, paramedical and allied staff would also be hired on temporary basis. The services of private sector doctors have been requisitioned to carry out disease control activities. Special clinics have been started in hospitals and mobile clinics are being pressed into service to check the incidence of fever in high risk areas. The chief minister directed local bodies to organise all party meetings in their respective areas before June 27 to finalise fever control and mosquito control measures. Pinarayi lauded the efforts being made by doctors to control fever despite constraints. He cautioned the people against false claims about successful treatment of fever, particularly dengue.
Such unscientific and baseless claims would only aggravate the situation. The focus should be on destroying mosquito breeding sources. As part of the cleanliness drive and vector control measures, the government has announced a state wide three day campaign from June 27. The chief minister urged the people , NGOs, political parties, student- youth organisations, NCC, NSS, SPC, residents associations to join the campaign in big number. Meanwhile, CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran asked party members to join the three day cleanliness drive in big way. CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had earlier issued an appeal to the party workers and members of front organisations to take part in the campaign.
