One dies as tree falls on him near Aluva
KOCHI: In a bizarre accident a man riding a scooter was killed when a tree fell on him near Aluva rural SP office on Thursday evening. Aluva Assissi native Suresh (30) of Desom house who was working in a workshop at the hospital junction died around 4 p.m when he was proceeding on the scooter to purchase articles for use at the workshop. In the impact of the fall, the scooter broke into two.
People who witnessed the accident said the tree fell because of a strong wind that blew at that time. The middle and lower part of the body of the victim was crushed in the impact. People rushed to the spot and extricated him and though he was rushed to Rajagiri Hospital, he died on the way. Police later arrived at the spot and cut and removed the tree with the help of workers.
A postmortem will be conducted on Friday morning after which the funeral will take place. The victim is survived by wife Sini and daughters Neeraja and Nikhila, both students of Aluva Vidyadhiraja Vidyabhavan. People said that several trees are precariously perched in the Aluva area and steps have to be taken to either cut the branches or fell the trees to save lives.
