KOCHI: A section of the students at the Maharaja’s College has blamed the governing council of the autonomous college and its principal for the inordinately delay in the degree admission process for the 2016-17 academic year. The SFI college unit committee demanded the government to inquire into the episode and take action.
The committee said that the ranklist in all autonomous colleges in the city was published in the first week of June and the classes started by June 10. “However admission in Maharaja’s was started only on June 20 and classes will start only on July 11. Students are losing one month’s classes in the beginning itself due to the lapse on the part of the authorities. Because the admission process has been delayed, Maharaja’s has failed to attract bright students,” said unit secretary Ashwin Dinesh.
“MG University also started admission on June 20 and all the claims of lifting the standard of education at Maharaja’s in the name of autonomy now stand exposed,” said Mr Ashwin. Because the admission at MG University and Maharaja’s took place on the same dates, several students could not take part in the Maharaja’s admission.
“While MGU permitted a reporting time of two days, Maharaja’s allowed only three and a half hours,” he pointed out adding an attempt is being made by the college authorities to make the new government a scapegoat in this.
